ABOUT
Here's what I can do for you: Make it look great and make your production go well. What you want is a gaffer with his own truck, grip, and lights and the skills to use it all. I make it easy for you. I'm an experienced gaffer and I'm a problem solver, looking out for looming problems, even if they aren't technically in my department. I do my best to make the video shoot work out well for everyone involved. I'm a good fit for out of town production companies
I started working in lighting in 1998 in New York. In the New York years, I worked as a gaffer on features, music videos, commercials, on-air spots, corporate video, and reality TV. With my extensive experience and can-do attitude, I can make it look awesome, no matter what your goal. I've been working as a gaffer in the SF Bay Area since 2013, based out of Oakland. Most of the work I do in the Bay Area is on corporate and marketing videos for tech, finance, and wine companies. I'm easy to have on set and a team player. Let's make some videos!
My 1-ton van is excellent for medium and small shoots of all types. If the job is bigger than my lighting and grip package, no problem. I routinely subrent gear or trucks from local vendors.
I also find myself doing more and more hybrid work, where I'm the gaffer but am called up to be a camera operator some of the time.

How much does it cost to get an experienced gaffer in the SF Bay area with a truck and all necessary equipment, you ask?
Labor rate 850/10
1-ton and all grip 325 + .80/mi
lights are pay as used;
If you bring all your own lights, minimum lighting bill 200
Negotiated flat rates available, commonly something like 1800/day all in.
Typical 1-day job usually costs 1450-2200, depending on how much lighting we use.
